Alcoholics
Anonymous
Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their
experience, strength and hope with each other that they might overcome
their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. There
are currently three AA groups meeting each week here at St. Bernard in
the Rectory Meeting Room. These are not officially affiliated with St.
Bernard or the Catholic Church, but AA is the most successful program of
recovery ever developed to help alcoholics to remain free of alcohol and
other drugs. If you are an alcoholic, or if you think you may be, you
are welcome to attend these meetings.
Alanon
Alanon is the “sister” group to AA. It is a support group for those who
are the family members and others dealing with an alcoholic or drug
addicted person in their lives. Like AA, Alanon uses the Twelve Steps in
their search for recovery.
Bereavement Committee
The loving spirit of the St. Bernard Family is evident when a
parishioner is most in need of support, namely, when there is a death in
their family. The Bereavement Committee will meet with the family to
help plan the funeral. We strive to meet the family’s needs,
especially assisting in planning the Liturgy for the Funeral Mass by
suggesting appropriate Scriptural readings, songs and prayers. We
are able to provide readers, musicians and other ministers when
necessary. In addition, the committee will help in preparing a
reception, usually in the Parish Hall, so the bereaved may spend some
time with friends and family following the burial. If you are in need of
support or are interested in sharing in this ministry please contact us.
Prayer Group Hotline
The Prayer Group Hotline is a prayer ministry offering group prayer for
those members of the Parish in special need who request support through
a time of trial. The Hotline is always open to anyone wanting to join in
their program of support.
St. Vincent de Paul Society
This is a non profit organization, that helps the needy of our community
with food, clothing, furniture, rent, and utilities. We also visit
nursing homes to visit the sick and forgotten. St. Vincent de Paul
gladly accepts donations.
Parish Pantry
St. Bernard Parish pantry began ministering to the needy of Dayton in
1985 when the Dayton Community Action Commission ceased its operation.
Non-Perishables and at times Perishable food is offered to those who
come for aid. The pantry operates in conjunction with the parish St.
Vincent de Paul society.
